BEFORE BECOMING
A TREE

60 minutesIndoorAges 7+New creation

Synopsis

Before Becoming a Tree touches our hearts and takes us on a poetic journey.

Curious about everything and afraid of nothing, Ada grows up dreaming of a life full of possibilities, where she can become “everything-everything” and explore every path. But one stormy morning, as thunder rumbles, something goes wrong. A tiny seed appears, taking root in the palms of her hands and leading Ada down an unexpected and unsettling path, where she must confront the fear of becoming still—like a twisted, motionless tree.

Blending storytelling and puppet theatre, Before Becoming a Tree explores, with poetry, humour and a touch of absurdity, a child’s journey through illness and her quest to escape immobility.

In Creation

For the past year, we have been continuing the indoor adaptation of this show, originally created for the stage truck.

The show has gone through several creation residencies, each helping to refine the writing, clarify the staging, and deepen the performers’ work. The most recent residency concluded with a first public presentation, warmly received by an enthusiastic audience.

Today, the creative process is reaching maturity. Final adjustments are underway to refine the details and achieve a fully realized form. The show is now preparing to reach an important new milestone: its encounter with audiences in theatres, scheduled for the 2027 season.
