Synopsis

At the edge of himself, a traveller finds himself facing an unknown and intriguing world.

To adapt, he must learn the bouncing language of the inhabitants of TONG, where vowels and consonants burst at the tip of their tongues. He discovers the world of the exponential, where his identity is tested through the chaos of novelty!

Inspired by Ursonate, a sound poem created by Kurt Schwitters in the 1920s and 1930s, La Fille Du Laitier dives into the world of Dadaism, a singular and surprising artistic movement. The show explores the theme of the unknown—the unknown that is an integral part of our lives, on both small and large scales, whether we are children, teenagers or adults. The unknown to cross, to discover, to make one’s own. The unknown that sparks both fear and curiosity. Ultimately, how can we allow ourselves to be transformed by the unknown without losing ourselves.

Tong touched my heart. I love it when theater is profound and addresses both children and adults. Your proposal is really very topical in that it touches on inescapable social issues. (...) What you do enables people to become more sensitive beings (at the risk of jolting them a little in their comfort zone). Thank you very much again!

Testimonial from an audience memberCBC News

As part of the Journées de la Culture, and in partnership with the municipalities of Val-David and Val-Morin, we presented TONG, an opera on the tip of the tongue. Audiences young and old enjoyed a different, rich and joyfully unsettling cultural experience. It was fascinating to see how the actors of La Fille Du Laitier told their story and brought us through a whole range of emotions, using a language invented and incomprehensible by words. The language of the heart was in the spotlight today.
